Artist

Artist Seung Yul Oh engaged Global Stainless to build his 5.5meter tall 3.7meter diameter polished stainless steel sculpture entitled:
‘Kimi / You are here’

The work was commissioned by the Wellington Sculpture Trust and was installed at Wellington’s Waitangi Park in 2025
Kimi is like a drop of thought suspended in space.
It touches the ground lightly, mirrors its surroundings,
and invites those who draw near to pause, reflect,
and trace the invisible threads that connect us to place and to one another.

Wellington Sculpture Trust sought permission to place the work in Waitangi Park from both the Council and mana whenua. Kimi (Seek) – signifies the actions to seek, look for, delve, search or hunt.
“It captures the notion that one should not confine their exploration to known areas but should rather broaden their search to acquire diverse perspectives, comprehensive insights, and wisdom – Wellington Sculpture Trust.

Testimonial from Seung Yul Oh:
I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for all the work that went into bringing Kimi to life. From the very beginning — the technical planning, fabrication, and problem-solving — through to the long, demanding hours of sanding and polishing, your dedication, care, and craftsmanship have been exceptional. This work could not have been realised without your expertise, patience, and commitment to quality. Thank you for the care you showed Kimi at every stage of the process.
