Abyss is a striking contemporary sculpture by Max Patté. Patté commissioned Global Stainless to manufacture this edition in highly polished T316 stainless steel, a material chosen for its durability, reflectivity, and ability to amplify the sculpture’s immersive presence.
Developed from a stylised scan of the artist’s own body, Abyss explores themes of self, reflection, and perception. The form is constructed from a complex series of non-uniform triangular facets, meticulously fabricated and finished to create a fractured yet fluid surface that shifts with light and movement, drawing the viewer into an ever-changing visual experience.
Now based in Mallorca, Spain, British-born Max Patté is a multi-media contemporary artist whose practice spans sculpture, painting, and light. A graduate of Wimbledon School of Art (1997–2000) and elected Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 2008, Patté later led the sculpting department at Weta Workshop in New Zealand. There, he contributed to a wide range of film, television, and public art projects before developing and expanding his own internationally recognised practice.
